My gratitude for your presence today! I am grateful for the work of the Transition/Electoral Committee and the many individuals who contributed to this inauguration ceremony. It is wonderful to see the level of effort put into making this event a success.
I am humbly elated to stand here, and that you are all here as we celebrate this remarkable youth body ushering new executives with trajectory of great enthusiasm. I am honored and humbled to accept the responsibility of an organization that has aid youth emancipation, and empowering mission which shaped a legacy of excellence in youth constituencies since 1999, though officially, September 2, 2010.
20th of February this year marked the beginning of a new phase in our move to making history, wherein today is the formal opening of rejuvenate of hope. This event provides meaningful reflection of our proud past, highlighting our present, and visualizing the bright future we are edging to build together.
This change of baton ceremony might be an opportunity to wear our best outfits and regalia. Great! However, twenty-two (22) years of stories telling the rollercoaster sparks in my subconscious mind that, Inaugurations are traditions that remind us of our strength as a community youths, the continuity of our enduring values and writing compelling new chapters together.
Often times, in order to move forward, we need to dig into our past, it was not all rosy albeit as the saying goes, “every dark cloud has a silver lining”. This saying resonates well with me and here is why Some months prior February, our expectancy for normalcy in youth emancipation almost never happened while many of us were hopeful for the best, the situation continued to drip south. Now, all these can be put behind us in order to fall forward for greater feat.
Having said that, let me take you on a journey into our administration, an era that value questioning status quo, engaging youths in critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, communication skills, teamwork, and ethical judgment: which are the cornerstones of a productive life, and the qualities of our labour/skill employers want.
One of the most common questions often posed at myself is: Comr. Segun, what is your vision for the development of Sagamu and community youths in particular? I believe the best vision for our communities and youth constituencies are the ones we develop collectively. Although I will be framing that statement in context of Is:
Individual
Initiative
i-Vision
INDIVIDUAL
Our teeming youths range from background and skills; whilst our vision statement requires us to work with each range that touches each youths based on his or her individual potential. So, how are we doing so far? An increasing number of modern tech inadequacies as denograted hands-on trust in our labour/manpower and we tend to encourage participation in internships that could build each and every youths. Our effort to provide such opportunities to all youths is the impetus behind our current campaign, where almost 60% of the energy shall be channel to youth-community-public interactions. Now let’s talk about the general populace, engaging our brothers and sisters in and outside Sagamu is no more an option but a necessity. We have a greater need for such relationships because our commitment to development and peaceful coexistence requires additional resources such as mentorship, which the youth constituency cannot explicitly provide.
INITIATIVE
It is the believe of our administration that the strongest bedrock upon which the best preparation can be built is via lasting initiative. It serves as precautionary and correctional measure for strong institution because it expands their intellectual capabilities, increases their agility and broadens their horizons. Hence, we will deepen our commitment to the synergy between the correcting our collective past errors and preparing for the future. A couple of our plans:
Partnering with NDLEA to form NDLEA/SYA Drug Free Club with intent to take anti illicit drugs campaign to all secondary schools in Sagamu.
Partnering with Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Education on the #WastePay programme
Partnering with Ministry of Agriculture for the concessioning of farmlands and farm facilities in our public secondary schools.
Establishment of SYA/STEM(Science Technology & Engineering Mathematics) Club with major focus on our secondary schools pupils.
Establishment of SYA Safety Volunteers.
Activation and equipping Environmetal Volunteers at all Community based youth associations.
Creating a well detailed database for all youths in Sagamu, including artisans.
Soliciting for jobs for our teeming unemployed youths both in private establishments and government institutions.
Partnering with the Sagamu Peace Agenda Forum to ensure a continuous peaceful co-existence among youths and residents of Sagamu across tribes and cadres.
Protecting the image of Sagamu and guiding jealously, our cultural heritage.
Organise yearly Shagamu Economic Summit to fast track investment in Shagamu.
i-VISION
Talking about the future we can build collectively. The first station is a commitment to enhance the quality of education while increasing access and affordability to qualified students. Generally speaking, one can assume that simultaneously increasing access and affordability will require resources that are beyond our reach. To do so, we go in future time on a journey that will lead to the future we envision:
quality education cum exposure
build a strong youth institution
develop an inclusive community
Part of my pledges today is what we have commenced actions on between 20th of February the period we emerge via the polls and now 6th of March, to mention but a few of this action includes:
Creation of internship opportunities for ten (10) undergraduates;
Employment opportunity for fifty (50) Sagamu Youths;
Periodic community environmental sanitation tagged Operation Clean Up Sagamu;
Constituting platforms for public relations.
This pledge to serve our community every day for the next three (3) years, with all we have to offer in words, actions, energy, and, of course, values; has given us reasons to create the following directorates and their head:
Directorate of Education and Empowerment - Comr. Babatunde Ogunsanwo
Directorate of Agriculture
